Ten-year-old Emon Makes a Device to Alert the Police in Case of Danger

Anurag Majumdar, alias Emon, has developed a system to send distress signals for personal safety. Remarkably, he is only 10 years old. Amidst the backdrop of the R.G. Kar incident, this system has garnered significant attention in the area. Experts believe that this system can enable those in danger to quickly obtain police assistance.

A resident of the BDO Office area in Labpur, Emon is a fifth-grade student at the local Paschim Kadipur Junior High School. His father, Muktishwar Majumdar, is a graphic designer, while his mother, Sangeeta Majumdar, is a computer teacher at a local private school. According to his family, Emon has shown an aptitude for physics and technology from a young age. By the age of seven, he had memorized the names of the elements in the periodic table and had a thorough understanding of their details. His parents note that he has always had a scientific mindset, often creating various science projects at play. The family mentions that he gained recognition after presenting a chart shaped like a Shivling, based on concepts of atomic physics, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a public meeting in Ahmadpur.

This time, he spent ten consecutive months developing the distress signal system with the help of three mentors. Explaining the system, Emon says, "The system is built using two mobile apps, a web application, and two IoT devices. If someone is in danger anywhere, this system allows them to seek police help via a compact device. Pressing the device's 'emergency button' triggers an alarm at the police station responsible for the area where the incident is occurring. The duty officer can then open the web application on a computer to view the victim's status and dispatch a police van or personnel stationed in that area. Additionally, the system identifies which police station's jurisdiction the victim's home is under, making it possible to notify their family through that station." Developing the system costed approximately ₹ 10,000, though the commercial cost of the device would be around ₹ 600–700. The idea to create this system came to Emon after hearing reports of women facing harassment in various places. Recently, the project secured first place among entries from 20 state schools at a science fair held at a polytechnic college in Sriniketan.

Ritwik Mondal, one of Emon’s mentors and a physics teacher at the local Chowhatta High School, said, "In most cases, the police receive information about incidents far too late. Using Emon’s system would enable the police to take swift action. However, the system will only yield real benefits if the police administration and civil society are made aware of it." Local MLA Abhijit Sinha remarked, "I have heard about Emon’s talent. I congratulate him. He will receive all possible support to help him progress further. I will discuss the practical implementation of this system with the police administration."

Administration Stands by Anurag “Wonder Boy”

Anurag Majumdar from Labpur can recite the names of all 118 elements of the periodic table in sequence in just 40 seconds. Concerned about women's safety, this ten-year-old boy has also developed a special device that connects to the nearest police station via a discreet device to provide rapid security assistance. He is currently contemplating the creation of several other innovative devices.

On Saturday, Labpur MLA Abhijit Sinha introduced this child prodigy to district administration officials. Top officials were amazed by the young boy's achievements. They assured him of all necessary support to ensure he can advance in his studies and research without hindrance.

Upon learning of the boundless interest and aptitude shown by Anurag, a Class V student at Kadipur Junior High School in Labpur, across various scientific fields, MLA Abhijit Sinha contacted the district administration to arrange comprehensive support for him. Accordingly, Sinha brought Anurag and his father, Muktishwar Majumdar, to the Suri Circuit House that afternoon. In the presence of district officials, Anurag spoke about his work and future plans. Anurag and his father claim that the existing world record for reciting the names of all 118 elements of the periodic table in the shortest time is 47 seconds; however, Anurag can do it in 40 seconds. He demonstrated this feat before everyone present.

The student, a resident of the BDO Office area in Labpur, also provided a hands-on demonstration of the device he invented for women's safety. Additionally, Anurag requested a library and a research laboratory in the Labpur area to facilitate his future studies and research. District Magistrate Bidhan Roy said, "Calling Anurag a 'wonder boy' would be an understatement. His interest and unfettered exploration across every branch of science are truly extraordinary. We will stand by him to support all his academic and research needs. We will also try to arrange for assistance from the State Government's Department of Science and Technology, if possible. Furthermore, we will speak with Labpur Shambhunath College to ensure Anurag can access their library and laboratories."

A Device to Protect Sisters, a Surprise of a Class Five Student in Labpur

Anurag Majumdar has astonished the scientific community by creating an 'RL device' designed to prevent sisters from being abducted. This fifth-grade prodigy has not only developed a protective tool for women amidst the current state of affairs but can also recite the Periodic Table of elements fluently in less time than the existing world record holder.

On Saturday, Labpur MLA Abhijit Sinha presented Anurag to the district administration to help further his scientific pursuits, stating, "With proper care, Anurag will become a gem of the district." District Magistrate Bidhan Roy was amazed by the young boy's talent and pledged full administrative support. Additional District Magistrate Biswajit Modak recorded a video of the boy explaining his various activities, stating he would forward it to the state education department.

Anurag's father, Muktishwar Majumdar, noted that the District Magistrate has arranged for the three district winners, including Anurag, to participate in the state-level science competition at BITM, Kolkata, through the Department of Youth Welfare. Anurag is a fifth-grade student at Paschim Kadipur Junior High School in Labpur. His father recalled that Anurag began drawing complex diagrams of solar systems on walls and reciting various scientific formulas from memory when he was just six years old; initially, his family was even frightened by this behavior. His father consulted Gyanendramohan Ghosh, a chemistry teacher at Labpur Jadablal High School. After visiting their home and speaking with the boy, Ghosh realized that everything Anurag was saying was scientifically accurate. College Professor Bibhas Babu was then called in and was astonished, wondering who had taught the boy such complex formulas. Anurag recites the Periodic Table faster than the current world record holder, who takes 47 seconds. When the Additional District Magistrate asked, "Do you visit the library?" Anurag replied, "The internet is my library."

Drawing on information from the internet and learning from two other organizations, Anurag developed the 'RL device.' In an emergency, a woman simply needs to press a button on the device to trigger an alert at the local police station, complete with her exact location. Amidst the widespread concern regarding women's safety in the state, the district administration takes pride in recognizing the significance of this young boy's system. His sister, Rajlakshmi, was born last October; by December, Anurag had developed an 'RL' device named after her.

Notably, in May of this year, Anurag personally presented a Shivalingam-based Particle Physics Model to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmadpur; the Prime Minister also sent him a letter of appreciation.

He is barely ten years old and stands about four feet tall, or perhaps a little more. He is a fifth-grade student. Yet, this young boy has created a device designed to ensure women's safety, enabling a distress signal to be sent directly to the nearest police station.

The surprises do not end there. The idea for the device came to him about a year ago, following the birth of his sister, Rajlakshmi. That event sparked a concern for women's safety in the mind of young Anurag Majumdar, also known as 'Emon'. He named the invention the 'RL (Rajlakshmi) Device' after his sister. Anyone facing danger while out and about can use this device to send a signal to the nearest police station. MLA Abhijit Sinha informed district administration officials about the achievement of this Class V student from Paschim Kadipur Junior High School in Labpur, Birbhum. The officials were astounded by the boy's initiative. They have assured him of full support so that he can pursue his studies and advance in the field of research without hindrance in the future.

Emon is the son of Muktishwar Majumdar and Sangeeta Pandit, residents of the BDO office area in Labpur. Muktishwar is a graphic designer by profession, while Sangeeta is a computer teacher at a private school. Even at this young age, the boy can recite the names of all 118 elements of the periodic table in just 40 seconds. However, the very idea and initiative to create such a device at this age is truly remarkable.

What is the device like? It consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The plan involves the public carrying the transmitter unit, while the receiver unit remains at the police station. Emon named this 'Human Security Alert and Rescue Management System'. As the young inventor explains, "If someone faces danger on the street, pressing the button on the transmitter device sends a distress signal to the nearest police station via GPS. The police can track the real-time, live location, as an alarm sounds at the station the moment the detailed signal is received." Using the web app, the police can track the device's live location and reach the person who sent the signal. It took Emon about seven months to develop both the device and the app.

Recently, Emon demonstrated the device's functions to district administration officials. Birbhum District Magistrate Bidhan Ray was thoroughly impressed. Muktishwar said, "Since the age of six, he used to talk about subjects like physics and chemistry, things we didn't even understand back then. Later, science teachers and professors remarked that Emon was fluently discussing topics meant for undergraduate students. We, too, began encouraging him in various ways." His mother, Sangeeta, added, "About a year ago, after his sister was born, Emon told us about his idea to build this device." Bibhas Dutta, a physics professor at Labpur Shambhunath College, assists Emon with his scientific studies. He remarked, "I am overwhelmed by the boy's interest and dedication." To advance his research, Emon needs two things: a laboratory and a library. The District Magistrate said, "Calling him a 'wonder boy' would be an understatement. We will fully support Emon in his education and research. We will also try to secure assistance from the state government's Department of Science and Technology if possible." He stated that he would arrange for Emon to use the library and laboratory at Labpur Shambhunath College. Abhijit Sinha, the MLA of Labpur, said, "A fifth-grade student is engaging with advanced science—it is incredible. I have requested the District Magistrate to support his education, and he has assured us he will. We will also convey this request to the Chief Minister."

Who knows? With everyone's support, perhaps Emon will one day realize his dream and become a space scientist.

Whether a young woman is facing harassment or danger on a deserted street, the siren will instantly alert the police station to provide assistance. It can even transmit an alert if someone home alone suffers a panic attack, heart attack, or stroke in the dead of night. All that is required is keeping a small electronic device, created by a brilliant fifth-grader named Anurag Majumdar. Impressed by his passion for science, Birbhum District Magistrate Bidhan Ray has hailed him as a "wonder boy." Anurag is only ten years old and a fifth-grade student at Paschim Kadipur Junior High School in Labpur; he lives in the BDO office neighborhood. Although he previously attended an English-medium school, he chose to enroll in a government Bengali-medium school out of personal interest. His father, Muktishwar Majumdar, works as a graphic designer. Anurag has amazed everyone with his intellect from a young age. Despite being in the fifth grade, he is already preparing for a competitive exam for tenth-graders organized by Cambridge University. He has already mastered subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Using his own innovative ideas and various components, he has created a system called the "Human Security Alert and Rescue Management System." Administrative officials believe that with proper nurturing, this young talent from the district could become a true gem. Local MLA Abhijit Sinha recently introduced him to the district administration.

Anurag’s request to the MLA was for permission to use a college library for his studies, which is why he approached the district administration. At the Suri Circuit House, he spoke about various topics with the poise of an experienced science professor. He first explained his invention, named the "Rajlakshmi" (RL) System, to District Magistrate Bidhan Ray; the name honors his sister, Rajlakshmi.

Under the RL system, each person would carry a device. In the event of any danger, simply pressing a switch on the device sends a signal directly to the police. The web application can identify the nearest police station responsible for that area, allowing the police to rush to the scene and rescue the victim swiftly. The device is linked directly to geo-location technology. Everyone is amazed by the device Anurag has invented. He is also studying Artificial Intelligence. The District Magistrate remarked, "I met a child prodigy from the district. He has already mastered the fundamentals of science. His invention, aimed at the welfare of humanity, is truly astonishing. He has showcased it at several science fairs. He has a bright future ahead." The local MLA added, "He has requested permission to use the college library, and we are making arrangements for that. If he continues on the right path, he will become an asset to the nation." Anurag's father mentioned, "The world record for reciting the names of all 118 chemical elements stands at 47 seconds; Anurag can now do it in just 40 seconds. We simply want our son to stay on the right path."

Emon, Awarded at the National-Level Science Fair

Anurag Majumdar, also known as 'Emon', was awarded at the National-level Eastern India Science Fair for his project, the 'Human Security Alert and Rescue Management System' (Rudralabhyam RL System). A sixth-grade student residing in the BDO Office area of Labpur, Emon impressed everyone by developing this distress-signal system over the course of ten months with the help of three mentors. He claims that the system enables the transmission of the exact location of an individual in distress to the relevant police station and their home. Recently, Emon's project was showcased at the Eastern India Science Fair organized by the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum in Kolkata. The fair featured 100 models and 25 projects from 350 students representing various states, including Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand. Among these, Anurag's model won the 'Sayan Memorial Prize for the Best Juvenile Participant' in the category for students up to Class VII. Local MLA Abhijit Sinha remarked, "We are proud of Emon's achievement and wish him continued success."

His mother, Sangeeta Pandit, a computer teacher, said, “A year ago, after his sister was born, Anurag told us he wanted to make a device.”

The District Magistrate said, “Calling Emon a prodigy would be an understatement.” Recognising his enthusiasm for science and research, the administration arranged for Anurag to use the library and laboratory facilities of Labpur Sambhunath College and also began contacting the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum so that he could showcase his innovations. The District Magistrate also assured continued support for Anurag’s education and research.
